Training
Training at CAPA is rigorous and challenging requiring a high level of commitment and dedication from students. This approach enables our students to succeed in progressing to higher education Performing Arts training and ultimately a career in the arts.
Students receive a minimum of 25 hours directed contact time. this is a programme of technical training, creative development, directed performance and theoretical application. In Dance students have daily technique classes including: Ballet, Contemporary (Cunningham and Release), Jazz and Urban. In Drama students study a range of Acting techniques and approaches and in Singing students develop technical skills.
Creative development is an essential part of the CAPA course and students study Choreography, Improvisation and Devised Theatre with the opportunity to gain experience in directing, composition, arranging and choreographing. Students own creative work is performed and assessed throughout the course.
Students also work in directed performance gaining experience of working with professional directors, choreographers and musical directors thus experiencing different artistic approaches, styles and methods.
The importance of rehearsal and refinement is also imparted on students developing their understanding and application of professional studio etiquette.
Training ultimately leads to students gaining extensive performance experience with performances held in range of venues giving students opportunity to learn about adapting to different spaces and audiences.
